Choreology ?

What is choreology ?

Choreology is a universal language of movement that provides a set of tools allowing the body to express itself with precision in order to communicate with others. By using this universal language, participants are sensitized and trained in (non) verbal and non-violent communication to improve their notion of "inter" and "intra" relationship.

Historically, choreology was practiced by Rudolf Laban (1878 - 1958) at the beginning of the 20th century. Today, it has been developed thanks to researchers and practitioners so that it can provide professionals (choreographers, pedagogues and performers) with analytical models. Valerie Preston-Dunlop created a structural model of movement on the basis of the Laban notation, with five intrinsic movement structures: body - space - actions - dynamics - and relation. Rosemary Brandt used these to name what makes us visible, and this method was then used by choreographers, pedagogues and performers. Choreology provides a very specific vocabulary to help broadly define movement and creativity.

Workshops

The choreological practice allows participants of all ages and levels to self-assess the way they move. This approach aims for clear and precise communication with the viewer. Choreology allows you to target the audience's reactions and the intention of the message sent to them.

In the workshops below, I attempt to make choreology accessible to all.
